BYU could replace Alabama on Tulane’s schedule for next season, freeing the Crimson Tide from its Week 2 obligation. That would allow UA to move its opener against Florida International back to accommodate the made-for-TV game against the Hokies.

Reports: Tide unlikely to agree to season-opener with Tech | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com
Unfortunately, it looks like the VT-Alabama game will NOT happen…
They would rather play FIU (Go Owls!) than VT. Also, Alabama doesn’t want to break in a rookie QB against the Hokie defense.
Pretty weak excuses, but Hokie fans everywhere are holding out hope that we can open 2009 with a great SEC opponent on national TV.
Does this open the door back up for a VT-TN cross border battle? We can only hope…
