Hokies nab 9th recruit – DE James Gayle from Bethel High

James Gayle, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end from Bethel High School in Hampton, has become the ninth football prospect to commit to Virginia Tech for 2009.

Gayle was timed in 4.5 seconds for 40 yards at a recent one-day Tech camp and received a scholarship offer on the spot. He said he had offers from nine Division I-A or I-AA programs, including North Carolina State, Syracuse, Purdue and ECU.

Gayle also attracted the interest of Virginia during a one-day camp there and was supposed to return to Charlottesville before ending his recruiting.

“What sold me was the one-day camp at Tech,” Gayle said. “It felt like a good fit.” Continue reading
