WDBJ: Frank Beamer teaches leadership to Virginia Tech students

The day before Tech’s homecoming football game, you’d think he’d be on the practice field.  But News7 caught up with Frank Beamer in class.

That’s because Beamer has teamed up with professor Chris Neck to teach a class in leadership.

From a packed stadium to a packed classroom of 600 students, Virginia Tech’s head football coach Frank Beamer is a popular guy on campus.

“I know everybody I told about it was like, ‘No fair, I want to come to your class,” says Tech student Linda Crandall.  “It’s better than a normal class, for sure.”

Tech notes | Lynchburg News Advance 10/01/08

Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said Tuesday during his media conference that the Hokies would request a medical hardship waiver for sophomore rover Davon Morgan, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the second quarter of Saturday’s 35-30 win over Nebraska.

“Yeah, we’re checking into it. … I know the NCAA is about what’s best for the kids. I think they would really look into that. … That’s what’s best for this guy, for sure,” Beamer said.

Goforth said freshman wide receiver Xavier Boyce (knee injury) is scheduled to have season-ending surgery, and freshman linebacker Bruce Taylor (shoulder) is likely headed for season-ending surgery as well.

If they miss the season, both should qualify for a medical hardship, Goforth said.

Virgil Is Proving Worth Near Home - washingtonpost.com

When Richard Virgil drove the coaches to the airport, Stephan vacillated between playing for Beamer at Virginia Tech or attending UNC. He cited the coach’s devotion to continue the recruiting trip during the ice storm as an indication of their interest and a signal of their loyalty if he came to Blacksburg.

While we’re ranting …

So today wasn’t nearly as eventful as the past three Tuesday press conferences. Week 1 we had Tyrod Taylor redshirting. Week 2 was Taylor un-redshirting. Week 3 was Whack-gate with Jason from Arlington whipping Fancy Gap Frank into a frenzy.

Sean Glennon unhappy with reduced playing time | WSLS 10

“Like I said before this game, I was told it was going to work like last year when we split snaps, so I had no reason to believe something like that was going to happen. Now that it did, I’m a little concerned.”

“I thought I was going to be the guy unless I got hurt,” Glennon said. “The coaches didn’t feel that way anymore.”

I’m sure he is unhappy, this being his senior year and all.  However, the best thing for the team now is for Taylor to get 100% of the snaps.
