BLACKSBURG — Carolyn Swords is a sturdy 6-foot-6 and leads the nation in field-goal percentage. But the Boston College center can’t score if she doesn’t have the ball.

Virginia Tech’s Brittany Gordon battled Swords inside and got the Eagles’ top scorer and rebounder into foul trouble, and that made the difference as the Hokies pulled out a 69-64 nip-and-tuck win over Boston College at Cassell Coliseum on Sunday.

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke’s “Big Three” — and its big center — proved to be too much for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team Sunday.

Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer combined for 63 points, and 7-foot-1, 260-pound center Brian Zoubek grabbed 16 rebounds and scored three key points to lead the sixth-ranked Blue Devils to a 67-55 win at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Duke vs. Tech pits ACC’s top trios – roanoke.com

Last fall, senior point guard Jon Scheyer predicted this would be the best Duke team he has played on.

He still feels that way, and it looks like he might be right.

Aerial Wilson’s shot was blocked, but Shanel Harrison grabbed the rebound. Her stickback missed, but again she fought for the rebound and on the second chance stuck it in, collecting a foul along the way.
