Hokies Lose Lewis, But Win the Game - washingtonpost.com

Following victories over Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Nebraska, the Hokies (5-1, 2-0 ACC) became complacent with a little-known opponent as their only obstacle before an idle week, Sturdivant acknowledged. But the way Virginia Tech escaped will eventually become a footnote on the final schedule.

Lewis ruptures achilles tendon in Tech win | Lynchburg News Advance

Virginia Tech junior running back Kenny Lewis suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon in the third quarter Saturday, and will miss the rest of the season.

He took a handoff from quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and appeared to come up lame before being tackled. He was helped off the field with 13 minutes left in the third quarter.

“He’s crushed. He can barely even talk,” Hokies running backs coach Billy Hite said. “I know what’s going through his mind: ‘Why me?’ It’s a shame. It really is. Sometimes you can understand contact injuries and stuff like that, but these are the ones that drive me crazy. Boom, it just goes.”

WDBJ: Frank Beamer teaches leadership to Virginia Tech students

The day before Tech’s homecoming football game, you’d think he’d be on the practice field.  But News7 caught up with Frank Beamer in class.

That’s because Beamer has teamed up with professor Chris Neck to teach a class in leadership.

From a packed stadium to a packed classroom of 600 students, Virginia Tech’s head football coach Frank Beamer is a popular guy on campus.

“I know everybody I told about it was like, ‘No fair, I want to come to your class,” says Tech student Linda Crandall.  “It’s better than a normal class, for sure.”
