Information, guidelines about carpool programs

Virginia Tech’s carpool program is available for two or more commuter students or faculty/staff (with offices on main campus) who choose to ride together and share one permit. Registration with RIDE Solutions is required as part of your application for a carpool parking permit and is free. When you register with RIDE Solutions you will receive expanded benefits. RIDE Solutions can help you find members to join your carpool or simply expand your emergency ride home benefit to a 24-hour service.Virginia Tech is a RIDE Solutions Workplace member.

As a carpool participant you will receive:

  • A carpool permit – less expensive than a regular permit.
  • Reserved carpool parking areas located in parking lots throughout campus.
  • 5 free daily permits per participant per semester (additional
    permits will be $2/day and carpool participants are not eligible to purchase other permits other than the daily permits).
  • Access to Emergency Ride Home service through Virginia Tech (M-F,
    8am – 5pm) and through RIDE Solutions 24/7.
